I received my training from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and board certification from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be trained by some of the most renowned doctors and practitioners in functional medicine including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Amy Myers, Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Isabella Wentz, Andrea Nakyama, Summer Bock and many other respected practitioners.
My commitment to you is to meet you wherever you are on your journey and empower you to take back your health by utilizing tools and approaches that you can tap into for the rest of your life.
When I was diagnosed with alopecia areata (an autoimmune dis-ease, resulting in hair loss) at 8 years old, I lived in a world of one. I didn’t know a single other person with the condition. Even my doctor and dermatologists — the experts I trusted to have the answers — didn’t have them. During my childhood, I was a guinea pig for several prescription drugs that were intended to minimize symptoms but didn’t address the source of the problem. These drugs didn’t work then, and they don’t work now — though they’re still popularly prescribed today. Despite the frustration, the confusion, and the continued hair loss, I had a deep-rooted belief that I would figure out how to heal my body.
For decades, my symptoms worsened. My digestive health had plummeted and several conditions including Leaky Gut Syndrome and Hashimoto’s Disease, made living life to its fullest not only challenging, but impossible at times. By my 40s, I was convinced that I was going to die if nothing changed. My doctors continued to tell me I was fine — when clearly, I wasn’t.
In 2010, I enrolled in a year long program at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I’d always been interested in health, wellness, food, and fitness, but suddenly, my passion was ignited in a whole new way — in response to my own health and as a way to empower others to take back their health! Many answers began to reveal themselves. I started consuming as much information as I could about the relationship between nutrition, lifestyle approaches, vitality, and longevity. The journey to optimal health, I learned, wouldn’t be solved overnight and definitely wouldn’t come in the form of a pill.
By slowly altering my diet and introducing small, conscious changes to my lifestyle and routines, I started to see progress. My gut function and thyroid began restoring to proper function; my hair began growing!
It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t fast. But it was worth it.
Wellness journeys can be frustrating at times, but truly empowering as we begin to see physical changes, feel better, have more energy and trust our body. It’s important to remain honest, humble and thankful for small victories along the way, especially when first beginning. I know, because I’m still on the journey. But I’m happy to say that at 50, I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been! I’ve committed to a workout program that’s given me amazing results both physically and mentally. I’m in the most fulfilling relationship of my life. And I still get to enjoy chocolate!
